"I was purple because I almost suffocated. Wim Hof's origin story seems straight out of a superhero movie. We sit in 72-degree rooms and watch television while eating processed "comfort" foods to escape from the self-imposed stress of our daily lives." (149) "Our comfort zone behaviorism has made us weak."The schools are teaching our children history, mathematics, and language, but it's time for children to also learn about cultivating happiness, strength, and health." (84)."We can live in sensitive connection with our most vulnerable senses and become the enlightened, radiant beings we were meant to be.Has helped me to start focusing my mediation on accessing deeper parts of the brain and regulating the autonomic nervous system.I have started to embrace the idea of letting go and living life as nature intended.Confirmed that cold exposure is remarkably powerful and I have found myself embracing the cold in more situations than just showers.Renewed my belief in the power of the breath. How my life/behavior/thoughts/ideas have changed as a result of reading the book. For example, his cold exposure program starts with just 15 seconds in a cold shower. Whether that be taking cold showers, practicing deep breathing, or connecting to yourself outside distractions of the modern world, Wim has something for everybody. I do not think there is a single person that wouldn't benefit from implementing some of Wim's lessons. Recently, I started doing the breathwork every morning so when the book came out I decided it would be worth the read. Since then I had been taking cold showers religiously and doing the breathwork intermittently. I discovered the Wim Hof method after watching a Yes Theory documentary a few years back. Moreover, it was very interesting to get a backstory on Wim and learn more about how he developed his method. While the basic method is something that I and many others have learned without reading the book, the book adds a lot more evidence for the practice. You don't have to be a superhuman to accomplish the feats that Wim Hof does these practices are accessible to everyone. The cold amplifies the effects of the breath by allowing you to channel the inner control gained from the breath to conscious control of your body allowing it to adapt to the cold.Connecting to the breath is key to relieving stress and low energy while connecting to yourself.
